GEORGE COOP SERVICES HELD

George D. Coop, 80, of 924 Elm St., Grinnell, died Saturday evening at Friendship Manor.

Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. John C. Epperson, pastor of the Grinnell Christian Church, officiating. Organist was Kathleen Heffner, and pallbearers were Frank L. Brown, Wilson Hopkins, Gus Kaisand, Ben Mitchell, Lester W. Osborn, and Jack A. Templeton. Honorary bearers were Leo Ahrens, Ray Allbee, John Higdon, Hubert Saxton, Willis Shuey and Ross Swart. Flower bearers were Edna Badger, Tena Hillman and Marion Templeton.

Burial was at Hazelwood Cemetery.

The son of James E. and Nettie Bell Wisecarver Coop, he was born Sept. 5, 1899, in Grinnell. He attended Grinnell schools graduating from high school in 1918.

On Nov. 21, 1932, he was married to Lela M. Leibrock at Peoria, Ill. The couple spent their entire married life in Grinnell. Mr. Coop was employed by Swift and Company for 35 years. He was a member of the Grinnell B.P.O. Elks Lodge where he served as a steward. He was also a member of the Grinnell Odd Fellows Lodge.

Survivors include his wife; his daughters, Mrs. Don (Marilyn) Taylor of Tucson, Ariz., and Mrs. Ivan (Doramae) Ullrich of Des Moines; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson; and two sisters, Mrs. Amy Tribby and Mrs. Helen May.
