FAYE SHADDEN FAIR

Faye Shadden Fair, 88, of Grinnell died of congestive heart failure Wednesday, Feb. 12, at St. Francis Manor.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mike Johnson, pastor of the Kellogg Christian Church, officiating. Organist will be Margaret Wheeler, and casket bearers will be Bruce Kading, Charles Manning, Michael McCrary, Chasu Lo, Joe Sumner and Glenn Turner. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery.

She was born Dec. 18, 1908, in Putnam County, Mo., to David and Vertie Wright Shadden. The family moved to a farm in Sheridan Township where she was raised and attended rural school. She was a graduate of Grinnell High School.

She was married to Jerry Fair Aug. 17, 1929, in Albert Lea, Minn. They farmed near Grinnell, and in 1937 they moved into Grinnell. Mrs. Fair worked for the Grinnell Shoe Company and, for many years, in various departments at Grinnell College. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Surviving are her children, Alice Anderson of Kellogg, June McCrary of Marshalltown and Jack of Springfield, Ill.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; two sisters, Geneva Backen of Tama and Betty Depew of Council Bluffs; and three brothers, Dick and Verlyn Shadden, both of Tama, and Bob Shadden of Zapata, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two granddaughters; and two sisters, Ferne Shadden and Lenore Shope.

Memorial contributions may be made to her church.
