MRS. FERNE MOWITT DIES IN KNOXVILLE

Mrs. Ferne M. Mowitt, 83, died Saturday afternoon at the Griffin Nursing Center at Knoxville, Ia.

The widow of John P. Mowitt, Mrs. Mowitt had lived in Grinnell most of her life except for the past eight years when she had lived in Melcher, Iowa, to be near her son Glenn A. Crooks.

Mrs. Mowitt was the daughter of Frank Hadley and Margaret Elliott and was born at Union, Hardin County, Iowa, on Aug. 13, 1884. She was married to Jesse Crooks and to this union were born two sons--Glenn A. Crooks of Melcher and Allen Crooks, deceased.

Later Mrs. Mowitt was married to John P. Mowitt, who passed away in 1954.

Survivors include her son and one sister, Mrs. Ella Hawk of Wolford, N. Dak.

Mrs. Mowitt was preceded in death by her husband, John Mowitt, her previous husband, Jesse Crooks, five brothers and one son.

Graveside services for Mrs. Mowitt were held at 3 p.m. today (Monday) at Hazelwood cemetery with the Rev. Newell E. Davis, minister of the United Church of Christ (Congregational), officiating.

Smith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
