WES VAN WYK

Wes Van Wyk, 16, of Rte. 1, Grinnell, died early Sunday, April 28, of injuries he sustained in a one-car accident west of Grinnell.

Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Grinnell Christian Church, with the Rev. John Epperson officiating. Organist was Marlene Toney, and vocalists were Roger Jansen and Jody Epperson. Pallbearers were Tony Benson, Eric Cox, Chad Deike, Mike Doty, Troy Gosselink, Scott Gosselink, Don Smith and Gerry Van Dyke.

Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

A Wes Van Wyk Memorial Fund has been established, and contributions may be sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home, P.O. Box 368, Grinnell 50112.

The son of Vernon and Loretta Penick Van Wyk, he was born May 25, 1974, in Grinnell. He was a junior at Grinnell High School where he was involved in sports. He was a member of the South Central Iowa Conference championship football team and the Honor "G" Club. He was also a member of the Grinnell Christian Church.

Surviving are his parents; one sister, Marcy of Grinnell; two half-brothers, Mark Van Wyk of Des Moines and Curt Van Wyk of Sully; two half-sisters, Nancy Van Gendersen and Ruth Ann Van Soelen, both of Sully; his paternal grandparents, Wilburn and Frances Van Wyk of Sully; and his maternal grandparents, Bob and Vera Penick of Indianola.
