LEE DOUGHERTY WAS SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHER MANY YEARS

Lee, son of Mary and John Dougherty, was born near Blue Grass, Iowa, Aug. 7, 1866, and died in Montezuma May 2, at 96 years of age.

When he was three years old, he moved with his parents to Poweshiek county, where he attended rural school.

Mar. 1, 1889, he was united in marriage with Esther Sanders and to this union seven children were born. They lived their entire married life in this county. They engaged in farming except for several years while operating a general merchandise store in Guernsey.

After the death of his wife in June 1937, he made his home with his children. In his declining years, he has been cared for in nursing homes.

He was a life-long member of the United Presbyterian church, and as long as his health permitted, taught a class in Sunday school.

He is survived by three daughters, Ellen McClune, Keswick; Ida Heishman, Grinnell, and Wilma Conley, Havre, Mont., three sons, George, Central City; Perry, Altoona, and Clarence, Baltimore, Md.; 17 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; also, a sister, Mrs. Leona Shedenhelm, Ladora; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 5, at the Steffy Funeral Home, with Rev. Glenn R. Dicken, officiating. Louis Gorsuch, organist, played 'Rock of Ages' and selected hymns.

Casket bearers were George Dougherty Jr., Dale Heishman, Dean Heishman, Paul McClune, Jack Dougherty and Gene Harding.

Interment was in Guernsey cemetery.
