SHEDENHELM SERVICES HELD

Leona Ann Shedenhelm, 97, of Cedar Rapids, wife of the late Robert Shedenhelm, died Friday morning, Dec. 23, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids after a short illness.

Memorial services for Leona Shedenhelm were held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 21, at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, with the Rev. Charles Mehaffey of Asbury United Methodist Church, and the Rev. Warren Feller and the Rev. Wilson Hyde, both of the Trinity United Methodist Church, officiating.

Further services were at the Ladora Methodist Church with the Rev. Edward R. Peterson officiating. Burial was at the Ohio Cemetery south of Ladora.

Born on Feb. 10, 1880, to John A. and Mary L. Reynolds Dougherty near Guernsey, she was the youngest of 10 children. She taught school near there, and also studied piano at Grinnell and at the Highland Park Colleges.

On Nov. 14, 1917, she was united in marriage with Robert Shedenhelm of Ladora. The couple had three children, one that died in infancy. They made homes in Grinnell and later Ladora.

After moving to Cedar Rapids, she joined the Trinity United Methodist Church. She was a member of the United Methodist Women.

Surviving her is a daughter, Mrs. Paul (Leona) Strovers. Those preceding her in death included her parents; both sons; six brothers, John, Will, Ross, Lee, Lou, and Frank; and three sisters, Viola Dougherty, Mell D. Clark; and Margaret Gabriel.
