LEONA LYNN STROVERS

December 08, 1924-March 04, 2006 Grinnell, Iowa

Visitation: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday March 07, 2006 at Smith Funeral Home, Grinnell

Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday March 08, 2006 at Smith Funeral Home, Grinnell

Interment: At a later date, at Hazelwood Cemetery, Grinnell.

Leona was born on December 8, 1924, in Ladora, Iowa, to Robert and Leona Dougherty Shedenhelm. She moved to Grinnell in 1932, attended Grinnell schools, and graduated with the Class of 1942 from Grinnell High School. On May 16, 1942, she was married to Paul J. Strovers in Kahoka, Missouri. The couple lived in Grinnell and she worked in the dietary department of the Grinnell School System for over 20 years retiring in 1981. Leona was a member of the United Church of Christ-Congregational and served in several offices for the American Legion Auxiliary. She was also very involved in the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, the Grinnell Youth Center and was Past President of the LAPM of the Rebekah Lodge. Her hobbies included reading, sewing, and traveling in all 50 states of the United States. She is survived by her husband, Paul Strovers of Grinnell; and her children, Paul (Andrea) Strovers Jr. of Chula Vista, CA, Catharine (Henry) Wehrman of Luzerne, IA, Evan (Carol) Strovers of Sunnyvale, CA, Dennis (Carol) Strovers of Centerton, Ark., Karen Strovers of Grinnell, Richard (JoAnn) Strovers of Milford, Connecticut, and Nickolas (Gloria) Strovers of Virginia Beach, VA; 19 grandchildren; and 33 great grandchildren. Leona was preceded in death by her parents; one great granddaugher; one brother, Robert Shedenhelm; and an infant brother.

Memorials may be directed to the Grinnell Dollars for Scholars and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112.
