PAUL J. STROVERS II

Paul J. Strovers II, 64, of Chula Vista, Calif., died Sunday, June 24, 2007, in Grinnell.

A celebration of life reception was held Thursday, June 28, at Smith Funeral Home. Private family interment was held at Hazelwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Grinnell Regional Hospice c/o Smith Funeral Home PO Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112.

He was born March 3, 1943, in Grinnell to Paul and Leona Shedenhelm Strovers, was raised in Grinnell and graduated from Grinnell High School with the class of 1961. In July, 1961, he enlisted in the United States Navy in which he served for 20 years. He also received the bachelor of arts degree in industrial engineering from San Diego State University. Following his discharge from the navy in 1981 he worked as a civilian in San Diego on military projects for the Department of Defense. He was married to Andrea Blankenfeld on Sept 25, 1966, in St. John's Lutheran Church in Grinnell.

He returned to Grinnell in early June to spend his final days under the care of Grinnell Regional Hospice.

He is survived by his wife Andrea Strovers of Chula Vista; two sons, Brian Strovers of California City, Calif., and Dr. Lance Strovers of Grinnell; five grandchildren; his father, Paul Strovers Sr. of Grinnell; two sisters, Cathy Wehrman of Belle Plaine and Karen Strovers of Grinnell, and four brothers, Evan Strovers of San Jose, Calif.; Dennis Strovers of Centerton, Ark.; Richard Strovers of Milford, Conn.; and Nick Strovers of Virginia Beach, Va. He was preceded in death by his mother, Leona Strovers.
