LEONARD THON SERVICES SET

Leonard (Bud) Thon, 60, of Searsboro died of cancer Tuesday morning, Oct. 30, at his home.

The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Grinnell, with the Rev. Harry Linnenbrink officiating. Music will be provided by Mary Ellen Brock, organist, and members of the St. Mary's Church Choir. Pallbearers will be Kelley Bryan, Dale Earnhart, Larry McVay, Mike Mintle, Howard Strong, Loren Vos, Verlan Vos and Floyd Snook. Honorary bearers will be members of the Searsboro Volunteer Fire Department.

The Scripture Service and Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday at the Smith Funeral Home, where friends may call. Memorials in Mr. Thon's name may be made to Hospice Grinnell and left at the funeral home.

The son of Gustav and Nellie Playle Thon, he was born June 22, 1924, in Grinnell. He attended Grinnell schools, graduating from high school in 1943.

Mr. Thon was employed by the former One-Minute Wash Machine Co. of Kellogg, the former Norris and Hayes Garage of Grinnell, and Grinnell Motors. He had also operated the Dixie Inn restaurant for three years, and for 11 years worked as a bus driver for the Grinnell-Newburg schools. For the past 18 years he was associated with the Building and Grounds Department at Grinnell College.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Searsboro Volunteer Fire Department for 10 years, and Teamsters Local 90. He was a past member of the Searsboro Town Council.

He was married to Jeannine M. Guthrie on June 24, 1961, in Grinnell. The couple lived in Grinnell and, since 1971, in Searsboro.

He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Kimberly Shutt of Grinnell; two grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Latcham of Grinnell and Barbara Meredith of Searsboro; and one brother, Arnold Thon of Grinnell.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
