GARY ASHBY

Gary Ashby, 34, of Omaha, Neb., formerly of Davenport, died Friday, July 5, 2002 at his home.

A funeral service was held Saturday, July 13, at St. John's United Methodist Church in Davenport. Private burial of the cremains will be held later at Bethel Cemetery, rural Grinnell. Memorials may be sent to Allan Ashby, 2605 W. 38th St., Davenport IA 52806.

He was a graduate of North Scott High School, Davenport, and had been a sales representative with Wolfe Beverage, Culligan Bottled Water and Konomatic of Nebraska. He enjoyed playing softball and golf and basketball with his brothers.

He is survived by his mother Linda Bailey, Grinnell; his father, Allan Ashby, Davenport; three brothers Mark Ashby, Dewitt, Scott Ashby, Davenport, and Loren Ashby, Louisville, Ky.; one step-sister, Tammy Flack, Minneapolis, Minn.; three step-brothers, Mike Mateer, Sigourney, Rick Mateer, Olathe, Kan., and Randy Mateer, Norwalk, a son Derrick Knapper, Tipton; his grandparents Virginia and Harry Ashby of Grinnell; a special friend Nancy Ortega, Davenport, and his former wife, Sheri Durbin, Viola, Ill. He was preceded in death by one half brother, Chris Risdal and his step mother, Jean Mateer-Ashby.
