RITES TODAY FOR JOHN PULS, SR., PROMINENT FARMER

John Puls, Sr., 76, Rte. 1, Malcom, died Friday afternoon at a local hospital where he had been a patient for the past few days.

Funeral services were held this afternoon (Monday) at the Trinity Lutheran church with the Rev. Fred Peters officiating. Mrs. Kathleen Heffner was the organist and serving on the flower committee were Mrs. Richard Wichman and Mrs. Erwin Schultz.

Pallbearers were Willis Pease, Conrad DeBondt, Walter Hanssen, Curtis Ferneau, Beecher Graham and Raymond Schultz. James-Schalinske Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements with interment in the Trinity Lutheran cemetery.

The son of Louis and Minnie Schultz Puls, he was born on a farm north of Malcom on March 9th, 1883. He had lived on this same farm all his life with the exception of four years when he lived in and near Malcom.

Mr. Puls was a member of Trinity Lutheran church and also of the Eagles Lodge.

He was married to Theresa Fogel, who died a few months after their marriage. On Feb. 20th, 1909, he was united in marriage to Mary Margaret Fogel at Toledo. To this union five children were born: Louis of Malcom, Mrs. Berle (Wilma) Tharp of Cedar Rapids, John, Jr., of Malcom, Raymond of Grinnell, and James of Malcom.

Mr. Puls is survived by his wife, children, 20 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Fred and Elmer Puls of Grinnell; three sisters, Mrs. Josie Mithelman of Grinnell, Mrs. Marie Fogel of Grinnell and Mrs. Evelyn Gross of Malcom.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, one sister and one grandchild.
