RETIRED MALCOM FARMER SUCCUMBS

Bennie C. Fogel, 71, of Malcom, died Friday morning at the Veterans hospital in Des Moines.

Funeral services were held this afternoon (Monday) from the James-Schalinske Funeral Home with the Rev. G.H. Hulsesbus of Brooklyn officiating. Organ music was provided by Mrs. Kathleen Heffner. Pallbearers were George Baustian, Lyle Zigler, Max Ryan, Duane Roudabush, Tom Hartnell, and Miles Clayton.

Interment was in Ivy Hill cemetery at Malcom with graveside services conducted by Francis Gallagher Post No. 294 of Brooklyn American Legion.

The son of George and Mary Fogel, he was born on June 3rd, 1892, eight miles north of Malcom. He attended the rural schools and the Malcom school and later farmed in that area. He was a veteran of World War I, serving with the U.S. Army. Following his discharge he returned to farming in the Malcom community. Since 1949, he had made his home at the Soldiers Home at Marshalltown.

Fogel was a member of the Francis Gallagher Post of the American Legion and just recently had been issued a lifetime membership by the organization.

Survivors include a sister, Lena Fogel of Malcom; a brother, John Fogel; a grand niece, Mrs. Edward (Sandra) Haugen of Victor; and several other nieces and nephews.
