EDWARD HANNAY DIES SUNDAY IN IOWA CITY

Edward Hannay, 40, of rural Grinnell, passed away Sunday afternoon at an Iowa City hospital from injuries received in a tractor accident on his farm July 24.

Hannay, who farmed six miles southwest of Grinnell, was pinned under a tractor for four hours when the machine overturned on a steep hillside. After he was freed he was taken to University Hospitals in Iowa City where his condition was reported as critical.

He was the son of John G. and Mary Dunham Hannay, born August 3, 1923, at Grinnell. He attended school here, graduating from Grinnell high school.

On Nov. 29, 1946, he was united in marriage with Ruth Kaldenberg in Newton. To this union were born two children--John Edward Hannay and Mary Ruth Hannay, both residing at the family home.

In addition to his widow and children, Hannay is survived by his mother, Mrs. Ben Buck of Grinnell; a sister, Mrs. Wade Hamor of Elm Grove, Wis.; a cousin, Robert S. Hannay of Madison, Wis.; and two uncles, Dwight Dunham of Aitkin, Minnesota, and Robert Dunham of Scottsbluff, Neb. He was preceded in death by his father.

Hannay lived in Poweshiek and Jasper counties most of his life, where he was actively engaged in farming. He was a member of the Farm Bureau, and had served as clerk for Washington township. Hannay was a member of the First Baptist church of Grinnell, where he served as trustee and deacon in the church.

Funeral services for Edward John Hannay will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist church, with the pastor, the Rev. Wayne Shireman, officiating.

Burial will be in Hazelwood cemetery. Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home until 9 a.m. Wednesday, when the body will rest in state at the First Baptist church.

A memorial fund--the Hannay Children Education Fund--has been established by the First Baptist church.
