GLENN CROOKS SERVICES HELD

Glenn A. Crooks, 81, of 410 Washington Ave., Grinnell, died Saturday, Jan 18, at his home.

Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. William Lawson, pastor of the Grinnell Northside Friends Church, officiating. Organist was Kathleen Heffner.

Pallbearers were Patrick Boat, Eddie Brown, Paul Brown, Paul A. Carver, Karl Eker and Deverne "Doc" Meredith.

Military rites were conducted by members of the Grinnell Veterans Ceremonial Unit, with burial in Hazelwood Cemetery.

The son of Jesse and Ferne Hadley Crooks, he was born on Jan. 7, 1905, in Grinnell. He attended local schools. On Dec. 31, 1930, he was married to Neita Crawford at Montezuma. The marriage ended in divorce in 1941.

During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army. He was a section foreman for the Rock Island Railroad for 45 years, retiring in 1960. He moved to Melcher in 1941, returning to Grinnell in 1980. Mr. Crooks was a member of the Melcher American Legion and the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen.

He is survived by two step-daughters, Karen Kramer of Grinnell and Karla Ruppier of Omaha, Neb., and two step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his second wife, Jane; his parents; and one brother, Allen E. Crooks.
