JESSE CROOKS

Jesse Crooks, son of John and Harriet Crooks, was born in Oskaloosa, Iowa, Sept. 16, 1880, and he came to the Grinnell area when very young. He made his home here most of his life.

He was married in 1903, and he had two sons, one of whom preceded him in death in 1949. He is survived by his son, Glenn A. Crooks, of Melcher, Iowa, other relatives and friends.

Mr. Crooks belonged to a Baptist Church when a young man, and was a long-time member of the IOOF Lodge. He spent his life as a farmer, as an employee of the Kearney Coal Co. of Grinnell, and worked for both railroads in this area during his lifetime.

Following a long illness and confined to his bed for a long time with a broken hip, Jesse Crooks passed away in Grinnell, on June 3, 1956, past the age of 75 years.

Services were held Wednesday, June 6, at 2 p.m. at Smith's funeral home with burial in Hazelwood cemetery. The Rev. C.E. Kingsley officiated.
