ODESSA F. FINLEY
Odessa F. Finley, 89, of 2263 C St. SW, died Tuesday, Oct. 13, 1987, in Cedar Rapids Mercy Hospital following a long illness.
Born Jan. 12, 1898, at Altoona, she married Jess Finley on April 3, 1921, at Des Moines. He died in 1956. Mrs. Finley was a registered nurse and had worked in hospitals at Kearney, Neb., and at Oakdale.
While in Brooklyn, she and her husband operated a large vegetable garden with deliveries made in the local area. She was a member of St. Patrick Church and the Altar and Rosary Society.
Her retirement years were spent in Cedar Rapids where she was a member of St. Ludmilas Catholic Church and a leader in Cusan Society. Her original poetry was often enclosed in correspondence to Brooklyn friends.
Survivors include two daughters, Irene Brecht of Cedar Rapids and Margaret Pawlak of Grinnell; a son, Robert of Tamarac, Fla.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services were 10 a.m., Friday, Oct. 16 at St. Ludmilas Catholic Church, by the Rev. Clarence Frana. A cremation committal followed. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Brooklyn. A wake service was held at Janeba-Kuba Fuenral Home West.
