PROF. TRUESDALE
DIES IN FLORIDA

John C. Truesdale, 70, Professor Emeritus of Grinnell College, died in Florida Friday. His health had been failing for some time.

Truesdale was former professor of physical education at Grinnell from 1927 to 1964. He was made Professor Emeritus in 1964, the year of his retirement.

Truesdale received is B.A. degree from Bradley in 1918, his M.A. from the University of Iowa in 1939, and his Ph.D., also from the University of Iowa, in 1950. He also studied at Carlton College and the University of Michigan.

From 1927 to 1945, he was chairman of physical education for men; he was chairman of physical education for both men and women during 1945-47. During 1927-39, and again during 1945-47, he was Director of Intercollegiate Athletics. He also coached basketball from 1929 to 1939. During the war years, Truesdale directed the physical program for military units stationed at Grinnell.

Prof. Truesdale is listed in "Who's Who in Education" and in "Who's Who in the Midwest."

He is survived by his wife, Hazel Christianson Truesdale, and four children, who are all alumni of Grinnell.

A memorial service, followed by cremation, will be held in St. Petersburg, Fla., today.
