MISS HAZEL COUTTS
SUCCUMBS SUNDAY;
PRIVATE SERVICES

Miss Hazel R. Coutts, of 1202 Hamilton Avenue, passed away Sunday morning following an illness of the past few years.

She was the daughter of Robert Gordon and Alvaretta Farley Coutts, born on February 23, 1892, in Grinnell. She was a graduate of Grinnell High School, and Grinnell College, and later received her Master's Degree from the University of Iowa. She had been a teacher since 1913 and her last work was as an instructor in the University of West Virginia, in Morgantown, West Virginia. She moved to Grinnell three years ago to make her home with her sister Helen, Mrs. Russell C. George.

Survivors include three brothers and two sisters: (Grace) Mrs. Sereno G. Norton of Brunswick, Georgia; (Helen) Mrs. Russell C. George of Grinnell; Ross V. Coutts of Grinnell; Dwight R. Coutts of Santa Barbara, California; and Ray C. Coutts of Chicago. She was a member of the Methodist church and Beulah Chapter No. 47, of the Order of Eastern Star.

A private family service for Miss Coutts will be held Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home with Dr. G.S. Bruland, pastor of the Grinnell Methodist church officiating. Organist will be Mrs. Kathleen Heffner. Following cremation the ashes will be interred in the family lot in Hazelwood cemetery. Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home on Monday.
