RITES WEDNESDAY FOR RAY COUTTS

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, at the Smith Funeral Home for Mr. Ray Clark Coutts, 69, who died suddenly May 16 in Chicago.

The Rev. J. Eugene Young, pastor of the United Methodist Church in Grinnell, will officiate. Burial will be in Hazwelwood Cemetery.

The son of Robert Gordon and Alveretta Farley Coutts, Mr. Coutts was born July 25, 1899, at Grinnell, Iowa. He attended the local schools and following graduation attended the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor from where he graduated.

Mr. Coutts lived in Cedar Rapids and for a while he had his own income tax service. Most of his years were spent with the railroads starting as a train dispatcher. During World War II he was chief dispatcher for the troop trains traveling through Texas.

For the past 15 years he had been president of the Train Dispatchers Association at the national headquarters in Chicago.

Mr. Coutts was a member of the Methodist Church, and the Crescent Masonic Lodge of Cedar Rapids of which he was a past master and chief potentate of the El Kahir Shrine.

Survivors include two sisters--Mrs. Russell (Helen) George of Grinnell and Mrs. S.G. (Grace) Norton of Brunswick, Ga.

Mr. Coutts was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and three brothers.
