FRED MINEAR SERVICES SET

Fred Minear, 89, of 607 Fifth Ave., died Sunday afternoon at Grinnell General Hospital's long-term care center where he had been living since last fall.

The son of John and Sarah Fowler Minear, he was born near Livonia, Mo., Aug. 18, 1883. He attended the schools near his family home and later married Martha Ann Carpenter at Unionville, Mo., Nov. 15, 1905. The couple had five children--Mrs. Ardie (Jettie) Anderson of Grinnell; Guy Minear of Livonia, Mo.; Loyd Minear of Grinnell; Rex Minear of Malcom; and Mrs. Earl (Dorothy) Englebarts of Malcom.

Mr. and Mrs. Minear had farmed following their marriage. In 1931, they came to the Grinnell area and farmed near Newburg until 1948, when they came to Grinnell to make their home. Prior to Mrs. Minear's death Aug. 26, 1971, they had celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

Mr. Minear is survived by his five children, 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and one brother, Johnnie of Livonia, Mo. He was preceded in death by his wife and 10 brothers and sisters, Leonidis Minear, George Minear, Albert Minear, Benjamin Minear, Ellis Minear, Samuel Minear, Edwin Minear, Mrs. Martha Speak, Miss Mary Minear, and Mrs. Nellie Bourn.

Funeral services for Fred Minear will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with Pastor Gary Jensen of the Grinnell Seventh Day Adventist Church officiating. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery.
