IOWA PIONEER PASSES AWAY

Lysander Dimit Dies At His Home In Grinnell At The Age of Seventy-Six Years.

ALL HIS LONG LIFE HAD BEEN LIVED IN IOWA.

Leaves Large Circle of Friends And Relatives To Mourn His Loss.

Lysander Dimit was born Feb. 8, 1851 in Washington County, Iowa and died at his home in Grinnell, July 16, at the age of 76 years, 5 months, and 8 days, after a lingering illness of several months.

He was the second child of George and Jane Dimit. The only sister, Katherine, preceded him in death just nine months before.

His boyhood was spent on the farm in Washington County. Later he, with his parents moved to Tama County. He spent most of his life in Tama and Poweshiek Counties except for eleven years spent in Canada. In 1920 he moved to Grinnell where he spent his last years.

On Feb. 21, 1878, he was united in marriage to Joanna Brown. Had he lived until Feb. 21, 1928 he would have celebrated his Golden Wedding. To this union were born six children, one of whom died in infancy. A daughter Creola died in 1909. The four surviving sons are: Roy M., and Robert L. of Grinnell, Elvin of Taintor, Iowa and Jay of Togo, Sask., Canada.

Many years ago he united with the United Brethren Church of which he was a faithful member.

He was a faithful and kind father and husband, a good neighbor and respected citizen.

Besides the four sons he leaves to mourn his death, his wife; one brother, W.C. of 1323 Summer St., Grinnell; 13 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; several nephews and nieces and a host of friends.

Pall bearers were six nephews--Howard Dimit, Vestal Dimit, Oliver Bean, George Hafkey, George Palmer and Marshall Horn.

Funeral services for Lysander Dimit who died at his home in Grinnell, Saturday, July 16, were held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Methodist church, conducted by Rev. George Blagg. Interment was in Chester cemetery.
