DEATH SUMMONS O.T. CARLSTROM

Oscar Titus Carlstrom, son of Oscar and Eva Charlotte Carlstrom, was born in Stockholm, Sweden, Sept. 19, 1856, and passed away Aug. 12, at 12:30 (noon) at his home at 1333 Elm street, Grinnell. He came to Chicago with one of his brothers when he was twelve years of age and lived with an older brother in Chicago. When he was seventeen years old, he came to the Chester neighborhood and worked for different men, among whom were Mr. Williams, Mr. Fisher, Mr. Sherman. He saved his money until he bought a place for himself in the Chester neighborhood.

He was married to Anna Elizabeth Harpster February 26, 1882. Five children were born to this union. They are Edwin V. of Lyle, Minnesota, Harry T. who is deceased, Mrs. Mary Bean of Grinnell, Mrs. Lillie Armstrong also of Grinnell and Oscar H. of Des Moines.

Mrs. Carlstrom died April 16, 1899, just about five days after Oscar was born. He was married the second time March 27, 1901, to Alta B. Quivey. He bought the farm where Mr. and Mrs. Bean now live. He moved to town about five years ago.

Mr. Carlstrom was a Christian from his boyhood. He loved his religion. He took it seriously and it meant everything to him. He was a member of the Congregational church when he lived in the Chester neighborhood. When he moved to town he united with the Methodist church.

No one could say anything against Mr. Carlstrom. He loved his neighbors and his neighbors loved him. He loved his home first, but the church was not far behind. He often grieved over the extravagances of others, yet he prayed that God would forgive and cleanse every heart from all sin.

Mr. Carlstrom was thoroughly honest and full of good works. If you ever talked with him you could not forget his sincerity and honesty of purpose.

He is survived by six grandchildren, Everett, Harry and Margaret Armstrong of Grinnell and Harold Carlstrom of Minnesota, Frank and Ralph, sons of Harry at Marshalltown. There are two great-grandchildren in Minnesota.

Mr. Carlstrom spent most of his life on the farm. He loved the templed hills of the farm. While he moved to town, his thoughts were centered on the life in the open country. He was always grateful for what he possessed--children, home and land. He will be remembered by his children with the greatest affection. You could not say words too great for him. It is hard to think he is gone, but we can be thankful he has lived.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by the pastor, Rev. W.J. Fowler. Burial was in Hazelwood. Pallbearers were R.G. Coutts, Armand Peterson, Samuel Raffety, Elmer Knowles, George Murray and Will Hays.
