LINUS QUIVEY

Linus Quivey was born in the town of Victor, Cayuga County, New York, August 16, 1827. When eighteen years of age he moved with his parents to Hamlin, Monroe County, New York. While there, in 1848, he was united in marriage to Anna Emeline Himes. In 1856 they moved to Knox County, Illinois. Here they lived until 1869 when they came to Iowa, settling on a farm southwest of Grinnell, where they lived together until the death of Mrs. Quivey about nineteen yers ago. To this union seven children were born: Mary, dying in infancy in Illinois; David, dying in 1880, aged thirty; Mrs. John Powell, San Diego, Cal.; Berlin W. Quivey, Jessie B. Quivey, Mrs. O.T. Carlstrom and George L. Quivey, all of Grinnell. Since the death of his wife, Mr. Quivey has lived on the old homestead with his daughter Jessie, and his son and daughter-in-law, Mrs. George L. Quivey.

Early in life Mr. Quivey united with the Baptist church and during his long life has lived a consistent Christian. For a long time past he has been in feeble health, but thru it all he has been patient and cheerful. There has been no word of complaint, but always words of appreciation for the kindness shown him by relatives and friends. With him the quiet, peaceful joyousness of the earth life, in spite of weakness and pain, has been a foretaste of fuller joy into which he now has entered. Thru the gates of suffering bravely borne he has entered into the rest which remains for the people of God. Saturday morning, after hours of pain followed by stupor, the end came a few minutes before eight o'clock. Besides the children mentioned, he leaves to mourn his loss twelve grandchildren and six great grandchildren. The funeral was held from the old home Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. F.H. Webster officiated, assisted by Rev. Robert Lincoln. His body is laid to rest beside the wife who for so many years, bore with him life's burdens, and shared with him life's triumphs.
