LEE ROY CHENEY, 57

Lee Roy Cheney, 57, of Montezuma, died Tuesday Dec. 18, 2001 from injuries resulting from a tractor/car accident north of Deep River.

Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 21, 2001 at the United Methodist Church in Montezuma with Rev. H. Burr Bryant, Father Howard Fitzgerald and Rev. George M. Salnave officiating.

Pianist was Sally Johnston.

Pallbearers were Rocky Wallace, Richard Icenbice, Jim Reitzler, Richard Geiger, Dan Rieder, James Fisk, Jim Jeffrey and Ron Pennington.

Honorary pallbearers were Kenneth "Bud" Cheney, Jr., Richard Cheney, Bruce Jack, and Denny Jack.

Flower attendants were Keith and Connie Kempf, Dennis and Vicki Blum, Viv Jack and Kim Jack.

The son of Kenneth "Mike" and Duane (Pierce) Cheney, he was born Nov. 25, 1944 on the family farm north of Deep River. He graduated from Deep River-Millersburg High School in 1963. He then began farming.

On Dec. 13, 1969 he was united in marriage with Linda Jack at Victor. To this union, five children were born. They lived all of their married lives near Deep River until moving to Montezuma last year.

They attended the Montezuma United Methodist Church. Lee Roy served on the Federal Land Bank board. His life centered around farming and his family. Linda and Lee Roy enjoyed vacationing and spending time in the Branson, Mo. area. Every summer they would take all of the grandchildren with them to Branson.

Lee Roy had built machine sheds and doll houses for the grandchildren. In anybody needed help, he would be one of the first there.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Terri and a son, Trent; his parents, Mike and Duane; and a brother, Jim Cheney.

Lee Roy is survived by his wife, Linda, of Montezuma and their family, Tammy and Bill Sutfin and their children Brandon, Shannon and Bryant all of Montezuma; Tracie and Brett Gregory and their children Katelyn and Kerri of Montezuma; and Tom and Michelle Cheney and their son Adam of Deep River; two brothers Kenneth "Bud" (and Judy) Cheney and Richard (and Jenny) Cheney all of Deep River; two sisters Dorothy (and Don) Van Zee of Cedar Rapids; and Donna (and Ron) Benton of Guthrie Center; a sister-in-law Arva Cheney of Deep River; many nieces and nephews and other relatives and many friends.

Interment was at the Golden Rod Cemetery at Deep River.
