RITES SATURDAY

Willis O. Parmenter, 65, of Rte. 2, Gilman, died Wednesday evening at Grinnell General Hospital following a lingering illness of the past three years.

The son of Harry and Minnie Green Parmenter, Mr. Parmenter was born west of Gilman on Dec. 3, 1905. He attended the Gilman schools.

On Feb. 18, 1926, Mr. Parmenter married Blanche Barnes at Marshalltown. To this union were born two children--Mrs. Ivan (Jean) Ireland of Robbinsdale, Minn., and Gary D. Parmenter of Grinnell.

During World War II, Mr. Parmenter was a machinist in Minneapolis, Minn. The couple returned to Gilman following the war and farmed their present farm since 1953.

Mr. Parmenter was a member of the Gilman Methodist church.

Survivors include his wife, Blanche; his two children; and 5 grandchildren--Mrs. Barbara Weber of Beaufort, S. Car., Richard and James Ireland of Robbinsdale, Minn., and Mark J. and Jill Marie Parmenter of Grinnell. Also surviving are two great-grandchildren; a sister, Grace Yates of LaJolla, Calif., and three aunts including Mrs. Laura Davis of Gilman and Mrs. Louise Strand of Newburg, several cousins and nieces. Mr. Parmenter was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marceda VandeKamp, and one grandson.

Funeral services for Mr. Parmenter will be held at 1:30 Saturday afternoon at the Gilman United Methodis church with the Rev. Norman Kauble of Omaha, Neb., officiating.

Burial will be made in Prairie View Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home until 9 a.m. Saturday, and thereafter at the Gilman United Methodist church.
