GARY PARMENTER

Gary Parmenter, 73, of Grinnell died on Monday, Dec. 8, 2008, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

A memorial service was Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008, at Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Stephen Roobol, pastor of Grinnell Assembly of God Church, officiating. A private family burial was held at Prairie View Cemetery in Gilman. Memorials may be made to the Gary Parmenter Memorial Fund.

He was born on Oct. 26, 1935, in Waterloo to Willis and Blanche Barnes Parmenter. He was raised in Gilman and graduated from Gilman High School with the Class of 1953. He worked in various jobs in Gilman and Minnesota following high school.

On March 25, 1961, he was united in marriage with Beverly Hamilton in New Sharon. The couple lived in Gilman for a few years and moved to Grinnell in 1964. He owned and operated the Parmenter Building and Remodeling Company until his retirement in 1995. He also worked in the building and grounds department at St. Francis Manor.

He enjoyed hunting, trap shooting and was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly Parmenter of Grinnell; one son, Mark Parmenter of Hiawatha and two grandsons, Wesley A. Sebetka IV and Noah H. Sebetka, both of Tama. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Jill Sebetka; and one sister, Jean Ireland.
