MRS. PARMENTER RITES TODAY

Blanche N. Parmenter, 79, of the Townhouse Apartments in Gilman died Saturday morning, Oct. 2, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. today at the Gilman United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Marilyn Buchanan officiating. Organist will be Janice Everts, and vocalist will be Genevieve Weaver. Pallbearers will be Larry Applegate, Robert Barnes, Denny Barnes, Richard Barnes, Harley Everts, Steve Harbin and Glen Spence. Honorary bearers will be Elgin McGrew, Marvin Medhus, Harold Palmer, Lloyd Sievers and Virgil Tone.

Burial will be at the Prairie View Cemetery, with the Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The daughter of Bert L. and Hattie F. Sebring Barnes, she was born July 7, 1903, near Gilman. She attended the Gilman schools and graduated from Gilman High School in 1924.

She was married to Willis O. Parmenter on Feb. 18, 1926, at Marshalltown. The couple lived in Minneapolis, Minn., until 1954 when they moved to a farm near Gilman. Mr. Parmenter died in 1971, and Mrs. Parmenter continued to live on the farm until 1978 when she moved to Gilman. She was a member of the Gilman United Methodist Church and the Green Grove Club, and she was an avid collector of dolls.

She is survived by her children, Jean Ireland of Minneapolis, Minn., and Gary Parmenter of Grinnell; five grandchildren; and three brothers, Walter Barnes of Grinnell, Harold L. Barnes of Gilman and Bert Barnes of Newton. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one grandson; a brother, Clyde Barnes; and two sisters, Margaret Everts and Irene Barnes.
