CLYDE BARNES RITES TODAY

Clyde Barnes, 81, of Gilman died Tuesday morning, Sept. 7, at St. Francis Manor.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. today at the Gilman United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Marilyn Buchanan officiating. Organist will be Janice Everts, and vocalist will be Genevieve Weaver. Burial will be at the Prairie View Cemetery, Gilman, with the Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The son of Bert Lee and Hattie Florence Sebring Barnes, he was born Sept. 7, 1901, at Gilman. He attended rural school in Tama County as well as Gilman High School. He farmed for several years east of Gilman and had operated a corn-shelling business. He continued the business and a trucking operation after moving to Gilman in 1949.

Mr. Barnes was a member of the Gilman Lions Club and the Marshallton Elks Lodge until his retirement a few years ago.

He is survived by three brothers, Walter A. (Jake) Barnes of Grinnell, Harold L. Barnes of Gilman and Bert J. Barnes of Newton, and a sister, Blanche Parmenter of Gilman. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Margaret Everts and Irene Barnes in infancy.
