HAROLD BARNES

Harold L. Barnes, 78, of Gilman died of a heart ailment Saturday, Jan. 12, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at the Estel-Perrin-Avey Funeral Home in Marshalltown, with the Rev. Edward Beck, pastor of the Gilman United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial was in Prairie View Cemetery, Gilman.

The son of Bert and Hattie Sebring Barnes, he was born July 25, 1912, near Gilman. He was a graduate of Gilman High School.

He was married to Ethel Mairs June 3, 1933, at Milan, Mo., and farmed in the Gilman area. He moved into Gilman after retiring in 1978.

Mr. Barnes was a member of the Gilman United Methodist Church and the Loyal Order of Moose. He had served on the Gilman Library Board.

Surviving are a son, Robert of Vermillion, S.D.; one daughter, Betty Spence of Marshalltown; nine grandchldren; two great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Walter (Jake) of Grinnell and Bert of Newton.
