DELBERT RAYL RITES TUESDAY

A. Delbert Rayl, 80, of Searsboro died of respiratory failure Saturday, Feb. 15, at Grinnell General Hospital.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Kenneth Santel, pastor of the Friends Church of Lynnville, officiating. Organist will be Darwin Van Wyk, and vocalist will be Kenneth Ratcliff. Honorary bearers will be William Arthur, Dale Brush, Glenn Brignon, Richard Davis, Teunis DeReuiter, Bill Gray, George Johnson, Thomas Lowry, Glen Van Dyke and Melvin Ver Steegt. The body will be cremated following the service.

Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association and left at the Smith Funeral Home.

The son of Alvin Delbert and Mary Jane Reavis Rayl, he was born on June 5, 1905, in Washington Township, Poweshiek County. He attended Washington Township No. 9 School and Grinnell High School.

On Aug. 28, 1927, he was married to Ione Pauline Fleener at Gilman. Following their marriage, they farmed near Searsboro. Mr. Rayl was a member of the Elks Lodge, the Odd Fellows, and the Oak Grove, Chester Royal and Searsboro Granges for over 50 years. He had held state offices in the Grange and was a member of the National Grange.

Survivors include his wife, Ione; his children, Willis L. of Cornwall Bridge, Conn., Kenneth E. of Knoxville and Dorothy (Dotty) Hall of Brooklyn; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Thelma Gault of Grinnell, Ruth Hayes of Oregon City, Ore., Edna Rayl of Sacramento, Calif., and Elsie Anderson of Elbow Lake, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Fred; one sister, Opal Frebert; and one granddaughter.
