FUNERAL SERVICES CONDUCTED TUESDAY FOR MONTEZUMA SERVICEMAN DONALD THOMPSON
Funeral services for Army Corporal Donald W. Thompson were conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Howard Hayes at the Montezuma Methodist Church. Miss Alice Underwood was the organist.
Interment was in Jackson Township Cemetery. Fred Lidtka, Hughie Snook, Edward Snook, John Jordan, Walter Audas and Robert Hobbs served as casket bearers.
Graveside military rites were conductd by units from the Blakley-Stevens Post of the American Legion.
Cpl. Thompson, 22, was killed in Vietnam Saturday, Dec. 2, when a booby trap exploded while he was in the field.
The son of Ray and the late Irene Thompson, he was born on a farm north of Montezuma Oct. 2, 1945. He attended Montezuma schools and graduated from Montezuma Community High School in 1963.
On Oct. 5, 1963, he was united in marriage with Linda Akers. To this union two children were born.
He was a farmer and also worked with Hughie Snook and the Audas Supply Co.
On March 20, 1967, he entered the service and left the United States for Vietnam duty on Sept. 11. An acting sergeant, Cpl. Thompson had been stationed south of Saigon.
Cpl. Thompson is survived by his wife and their two children, William and Sheryl; his father, Ray Thompson of Barnes City; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Van Cleave of Montezuma; and paternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Howard Thompson of Montezuma.
His mother preceded him in death.
