WARREN SWANGEL
Montezuma--Warren Leroy Swangel, formerly of Montezuma, died on September 13, 2008 at the Cambridge Care Center in Lakewood, Colorado. Funeral services will be held at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 beginning at 11:00 AM with Reverend Cletus Lee Miller officiating. Burial will follow at the West Liberty Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM on Wednesday, September 17 and continue until the time of the service.

Warren Leroy Swangel was born in Montezuma, Iowa on August 16, 1917, the son of Alva and Edna Swangel. Warren grew up on a farm in Iowa attended schools in Poweshiek and Mahaska counties. He married Millie Johannes in Oskaloosa, Iowa on December 17, 1938. Warren continued farming until they moved to southern California in 1941. During WWII, he began working for Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach and worked there for almost twenty years. Warren also worked as a Real Estate and Insurance Broker with an office in Bell Gardens, California. In 1961, Warren moved to Montezuma, Iowa where he bought the Gilbert Motel. Along with the help of his wife Millie, he managed the motel, owned and operated a roofing business and drove a school bus for the Montezuma School District until he retired in 1990. Warren was an active member of the West Liberty Church of Christ where he was a song leader and taught Bible classes. In 1991, Warren and Millie moved to Colorado to be nearer the daughters and their families. They lived in Wheat Ridge and Lakewood, Colorado. Warren was also a member of the Miller Street Church of Christ.

Those left with many good memories are his wife Millie; a son Gordon (Pat) Swangel of Chino Hills, CA and two daughters, Carol (Larry) Fayer of Highlands Ranch, CO and Ginger (Steve) Ham of Evergreen, CO; two brothers, Donald Swangel of San Bernardino, CA, and Paul Swangel of New Sharon, IA.

He leaves six grandchildren: Pamela Lee of Chino, CA, Gregory Fayer of Beverly Hills, CA, Mark (Christie) Swangel of Corona, CA, Lisa (Charlie) Butler of Highlands Ranch, CO and Caleb and Erika Ham of Evergreen, CO. Warren was also blessed with three great grandsons: Saxon Lee of Chino, CA, and Nathan and Ryan Butler of Highlands Ranch, CO. His legacy will also be honored by several nieces, nephews and many friends.

Preceding Warren in death were his parents and two brothers, Ralph and Henry.
