SEARSBORO--Ellis Luvern Tish was born May 9, 1894, at Searsboro, Iowa, and died Feb. 28 at Veterans hospital, Iowa City, where he had been a patient for three weeks.
Jack, as he was commonly known, grew to manhood in and around Searsboro, and spent his entire life here, with the exception of military duty in France in World War I. He attended the Searsboro elementary and high schools. On Aug. 30, 1937, he was united in marriage with Evelyn Alice Webb of Osceola. To this union were born two children, Dorothy and Thomas.
Following his discarhge from service in 1919, he engaged in the carpenter trade; for a period of 30 years Jack was also a rural substitute mail carrier from the Searsboro Post Office. The past four years were spent as clerk in this same post office. Surviving are his widow, Evelyn A. Tish of the home, and children; Thomas of Searsboro, and Dorothy of Eau Claire, Wis.
Jack was a member of Blakely-Stevens American Legion Post of Montezuma. This post was in charge of military honors at the graveside in West Liberty cemetery.
