HELEN E. OTCHECK
Helen E. Otcheck, 82, of Grinnell died Tuesday, Dec. 22, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with Helen Hainey, first reader of the Christian Science Church of Ames, officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery southwest of Grinnell.
The daughter of Harry Clinton and Fanny Smith Palmer, she was born Dec. 20, 1916, in Winnebago, Ill. She later moved to Osage where she was raised and educated. She was a 1934 graduate of Osage High School.
On Feb. 22, 1942, she was married to Russell N. Otcheck in Austin, Minn. The couple lived in Virginia during World War II and later lived in Grinnell. She was a beautician here for several years before retiring in 1951 to raise her family. She had been a resident of the Mayflower since 1993.
Surviving are three daughters, Jane Brown of Granger, Judie Otcheck of Clyde, Ohio, and Susanne Schmidt of Grinnell; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and three sisters, Maxine Knudtson, Margaret Coonradt and Fern Palmer.
