RUSS OTCHECK SERVICES HELD

Funeral services for Russell N. Otcheck, 64, who died early Thursday at University Hospitals in Iowa City, were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home here.

The Rev. John W. McCallum, pastor of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, officiated. Organist was Mrs. Willard Heffner, and pallbearers were Leo Ahrens, Wilbur Allen, John Higdon, Gus Kaisand, Earl F. Lamb, Earl L. Reedy, Arthur L. Smith and Dean Thompson. Honorary pallbearers were Max Allen, H. George Apostle, Keith Downey, John Eversdyke, Karl L. Lindenmayer, Bill Noel, Jim Van Draska, and Earl Trease.

Burial was at Bethel Cemetery southwest of Grinnell.

The son of Eugene James and Ella Nora Wade Otcheck, he was born Aug. 16, 1910, in Newton. He was graduated from Grinnell High School and later was married to Helen Palmer of Osage in Austin, Minn. The couple had three children.

Mr. Otcheck operated Russ' Tavern here for 33 years, retiring and selling the business last spring because of illness. He was a member of Elks Lodge No. 1266, Focht-Tennant Post No. 53 of the American Legion, and the Grinnell Eagles Lodge. During World War II he served as a sergeant with the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his wife, Helen; his three daughters, Mrs. Jane Ellen Brown of Des Moines, Judith Ann Otcheck, a student at the University of Iowa, and Susanne Otcheck, a member of the junior class at Grinnell High School; a granddaughter, Jo Ellen Brown of Des Moines; two sisters, Mrs. Harley (Elvera) Burch of Brooklyn and Mrs. Clyde (Helen) Callen of Marshalltown; and a brother, Forrest Otcheck of Quincy, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Opal, who died in infancy; and a brother, W. Fred Otcheck.
