SERVICES FOR MRS. SELAH TISH, 97, HELD SATURDAY AT STEFFY FUNERAL HOME
Funeral services for Mrs. Selah Tish were conducted by the Rev. Mr. James Ross at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 21, in the Steffy Funeral Home. Music was provided by Mrs. Keith Stahl and Mrs. Fred Hubbard with organist Miss Alice Underwood.
Casket bearers were Willis Snook, LaVerne Tish, Lester Thompson, Earl Tish, Marvin Tish and Raymond Snider. Interment was at West Liberty Cemetery.
Mrs. Tish, 97, passed away Tuesday, December 17, at a Montezuma nursing home.
The daughter of Alfred and Catherine Reeves, Selah Matilda was born in Rock Island County, Ill., on July 8, 1871. When she was a girl the family moved to Iowa.
On Jan. 26, 1891, she married John Tish of Searsboro. They made their home on a farm southeast of Searsboro. To this union 11 children were born.
Mrs. Tish joined the Little Mount Baptist Church on Feb. 1, 1912.
After the death of Mr. Tish in 1938, she lived with her daughter, Mrs. Elmer Burggraaf.
She is survived by her eight children, Mrs. Howard (Sylvia) Thompson, of Montezuma, Mrs. Fay (Cecile) Snider of Ottumwa, Clayton of Malcom, Floyd of Deep River, Kenneth of Brooklyn, Alfred of Montezuma, Mrs. Lester (Eva) Snook of Deep River, Mrs. Elmer (Gladys) Burggraaf of Deep River; 53 grandchildren; 138 great-grandchildren; 37 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by three sons, Chester, Warren and Clair; four sisters and four brothers.
