OBITUARY
JOHN TISHJohn Tish, son of Samuel and Katherine Tish, was born near Searsboro, Iowa, March 23, 1868, and spent most of his life in the community of his birth.
Growing to manhood, Mr. Tish followed the vocation of farming, which vocation he followed until his health failed some two years ago.
He united in marriage to Miss Selah Reeves of the same neighborhood, both having grown up together in the same neighborhood, and to this union eleven children were born, all having at this date grown to manhood and womanhood, and nine of whom live within driving distance of their old home and who were with him when he passed away.
Jovial by nature, a lover of company, and while not a great man to go places, he loved to have folk, especially his own, in his home.
Mr. Tish lived in the neighborhood of Montezuma for five years, and the remainder of his life in the Searsboro vicinity.
He was the brother of Charles Tish of the Blue Point community, and Preston Tish of Montezuma, both of whom are living.
Mr. Tish was strong in health until about two years ago, and at that time his heart weakened, but he withstood the trouble until about two o'clock on the morning of September 16, 1938, he gave up the battle with the Grim Reaper, surrendering the body so much loved by the family and relatives, at the age of 70 years, 5 months and 23 days. He leaves his widow, 11 children and 38 grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted from the West Liberty Church of Christ, on Sunday, September 18, Brother Earl Warren of Ivy officiating. Burial was made in the West Liberty cemetery.
Pall bearers were George Pratt, Erschel Smothers, Chas. Baird, Ed Inman, Art Dryden and James McCormick. Mrs. H. T. Koger and Mrs. Fred Hubbard sang favorite selections.
