SELAH TISH LEAVES 236 DESCENDANTS

Selah Matilda, daughter of Alfred and Catherine Reeves, was born in Rock Island county, Ill., on July 8, 1871, and passed away in a nursing home in Montezuma, Iowa, on Dec. 17, 1968, at 97 years of age.

Her family moved to Iowa when she was a girl. On January 26, 1891, she was united in marriage with John Tish of Searsboro. They made their home on a farm southeast of Searsboro. To this union eleven children were born.

Mrs. Tish joined the Little Mount Baptist church Feb. 1, 1912.

After the death of Mr. Tish in 1938, she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Elmer Burggraaf of Deep River.

She was preceded in death by her husband and three sons, Chester, Warren and Clair; four sisters and four brothers.

She is survived by her eight children, Mrs. Howard (Sylvia) Thompson of Montezuma, Mrs. Fay (Cecile) Snider of Ottumwa; Clayton of Malcom; Floyd of Deep River; Mrs. Elmer (Gladys) Burggraaf of Deep River; fifty-three grandchildren; one hundred thirty-eight great grandchildren and thirty-seven great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Services were held Dec. 21 at Steffy Funeral Home with the Rev. James Ross officiating. Music was by Mrs. Keith Stahl and Mrs. Fred Hubbard, with Miss Alice Underwood at the organ.

Casket bearers were Willis Snook, La Verne Tish, Lester Thompson, Earl Tish, Marvin Tish, and Raymond Snider. Burial was in West Liberty cemetery.
