RITES HELD FOR CHARLIE FUDGE
Charlie M.L. Fudge, 76, of Vinton, formerly of Grinnell, died Friday evening, Jan. 14, of an apparent heart attack.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Vinton, with the Rev. Mark W. Jervis officiating. Burial was at Maplewood Cemetery in Vinton, with the Phillips Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
The son of Marion and Edna Mae Robertson Fudge, he was born Feb. 17. 1906, at Atlantic. He was married to Henrietta Peron on Aug. 25, 1929, at Atlantic.
Mr. Fudge worked for Swift & Co. of Grinnell and Atlantic and operated the Fudge Produce Co. here before becoming a produce inspector for the state of Iowa. He retired in 1976.
He served as mayor of Grinnell for one term in the late 1950s and was a member of the Grinnell and Atlantic volunteer fire departments.
He is survived by his wife; one son, Charlie Mart Fudge of Monticello, Ill.; one daughter, Edna M. Winsor of Vinton; six grandchildren; three sisters, Mabel and Marjorie Fudge, both of Atlantic, and Ruby Bravo of Vista, Calif.; and one brother, William Fudge of Atlantic.
He was preceded in death by one grandson and two brothers.
