CLIFFORD W. VAN WYNGARDEN

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon, June 19, at the Smith Funeral Home, for Clifford W. Van Wyngarden, 83, of Malcom, who died Tuesday, June 16, 1998, at Friendship Manor in Grinnell.

The Rev. Bruce Feuerbach, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Grinnell, officiated. Organist was Nancy Sears and vocalist was Mary Feuerbach. Pallbearers were Rod Boggess, Gary Glandon, Larry Sears, Ray Spriggs, Brian Thompson and Don Turner. Honorary bearers were Leroy Calvin, Paul Elliott, Ralph Fleener, Walt Jones and Howard Vanness. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.

The son of Walter S. and Edna Cline Van Wyngarden, Clifford was born July 15, 1914, in rural Jasper County, Iowa. He received his education in rural schools near his home, Newton School District, and was a 1935 graduate of Grinnell High School.

He was married to Vera Lucille Wahner Aug. 6, 1938, in Grinnell, where the couple made their home. He was employed with Edwards Grocery and Mitchell Motors prior to working as a custodian in the Grinnell Newburg School District. He retired in 1979. The couple moved to Malcom in 1986. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by a son, Larry Van Wyngarden, and a sister, Mildred Cline.

Survivors include his wife, Vera, of Malcom; one daughter, Judith Wakeley of Malcom; two grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
