MARY OLSON DIES IN ILLINOIS HOSPITAL

Mrs. Mary Olson, 60, of Morris, Ill., died Tuesday morning at a hospital in Morris, Ill., following an illness of the past month.

The daughter of Roy E. and Kathrina Buchanan Bates, Mrs. Olson was born on Sept. 7, 1908, at Grinnell. She attended the Grinnell schools and was a graduate of Grinnell College, with the class of 1930. She continued her education at the University of Chicago, where she received her M.S. degree in nutrition.

Mrs. Olson was employed as a research chemist for the City Service Co. in East Chicago, as a dietician by the University of Chicago Hospital and also was professional worker for the Indiana Girl Scouters. She was a member of the Augustana Lutheran Church.

In 1937, she was married to Dr. William H. Olson at Chicago, Ill. Following their marriage they lived in Chicago until 1954 when they moved to Michigan City, Ind., where they lived until 1963 when they returned to Chicago. For the past two years they have lived in Morris, Ill.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. William H. Olson of Morris, Ill.; two sons--Anton J. of Detroit, Mich., and William H. Jr. of Toronto, Canada; four daughters--Mrs. Jerry (Judith) Silence of Indianapolis, Ind., Mrs. Joseph (Mary) Magro of Denver, Colo.; Johanna Kay of Chicago and Deborah Sue of Chicago; five grandchildren; her father, Roy E. Bates of Grinnell; and three sisters--Mrs. Barbara Howell of Grinnell; Mrs. Jean Nelson of Canoga Park, Calif. and Mrs. Joy Jolley of Oskaloosa.

Mrs. Olson was preceded in death by her mother in 1963.

Funeral services for Mrs. Olson will be held at 4 p.m. today (Thursday) at the United Church of Christ-Congregational with the Rev. Newell E. Davis officiating. Organist will be Norman Goodbrod.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Silence, Joseph Magro, Edward Howell, Irving Howell, Charles H. Dimit and Ray Jolley.

Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery. James-Schalinske Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
