ALICE DEBERG
Alice Evelyn DeBerg, 79, of New Hartford, formerly of Grinnell, died Saturday, Jan. 13, in Waterloo.
Funeral services were conducted Jan. 17 at the New Hartford United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Milo Morris officiating. Burial was in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery.
The daughter of William H. and Edna Irene White Tillson, she was born April 25, 1916, in Cresco. She was a 1934 graduate of Cresco High School and a 1938 graduate of Iowa State Teachers College.
She taught primary school and music. On June 23, 1940, she was married to J.F. "Jack" DeBerg in Cresco. They operated DeBerg's East End Grocery in Grinnell, and Mrs. DeBerg gave private piano lessons. They later moved to Waterloo where they lived until 1978, then moved to New Hartford.
For 16 years, Mrs. DeBerg served as pianist at the New Hartford United Methodist Church. She was a 50-year member of the Cedar Falls Order of Eastern Star and organist for the New Hartford Anchor Rebekah Lodge.
Surviving are her husband; two sons, William of San Diego, Calif., and Thomas of St. Petersburg, Fla.; one daughter, Evelyn I. DeBerg of Waterloo; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Tilson, and one sister, Gladys Nichols.
