FERNNE ALYN OSBORN
Mrs. Fernne A. Osborn, 76, the widow of Gordon Osborn, rural Grinnell, died Monday, Aug. 3, at Grinnell General Hospital of an apparent stroke suffered earlier in the day at her home.
She was the daughter of Edwin F. and Cora L. Maxwell Rector, and was born in Newton May 12, 1905. She attended Newton schools and later married Gordon Osborn in Iowa City June 22, 1921. The couple lived at Tiffin and later farmed near Malcom. They farmed west of Brooklyn from 1937 until the death of her husband. She has made her home in Grinnell the past six years. She as an honorary member of the 472nd Engineers Maintenance Company of the United States Army, and had been a member of the Farmers Union organization.
Survivors include her five children, Neal Osborn, Coralville; Gene Osborn, rural Brooklyn; Mrs. George (Lucille) Erickson, Hartford; Mrs. Lee (Blythe) Johnson, Grinnell; and Karel Shults, Grinnell. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon on July 12, 1975; a son, Keith Osborn in 1954; one grandchild; her parents; and three brothers, including Charles Rector in 1945.
Funeral services for Mrs. Fernne A. Osborn were held Saturday, Aug. 8, at the Smith Funeral Home with Rev. John C. Epperson of the Grinnell Christian Church officiating. Organist was Mrs. Kathleen Heffner. Pallbearers were Mike Osborn, Dan Osborn, Dell Osborn, Gary Osborn, Ron Erickson, James Erickson, Kevin Hawkins, Charles Adamson, Darrell Bahndorf and Lonnie Meldrem. Flower bearers were Mrs. Earl Lamb, Mrs. Dean Lippincott, and Mrs. Owen O'Halloran. Burial was at Hazelwood Cemetery.
NOTE: Her brother, Charles Rector died in 1944.
