Flossie Iowa, daughter of John and Clarissa Wymore Broyles was born Sept. 24, 1888, on a farm near Barnes City. It was in this community that she grew to womanhood and attended the local rural school and church.
As a young woman she came to the Searsboro community where she met Edgar P. Johnson. They were united in marriage Dec. 14, 1913.
After a few months living in New Sharon, they came to the farm in Poweshiek county near Searsboro where they spent their entire lives.
To this union were born four children--Donald L. of rural Searsboro, Marvin L. of Kansas City, Kans., Paula L. Steen of rural Searsboro, and Kenneth L. who lost his life 20 years ago today, May 15 in World War II in a plane crash.
Others left to sustain her passing are a sister, Ada Bower of New Sharon; eight grandchildren, many other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. May 15 at the Friends church in Searsboro by Miss Myrtle Lee, pastor. Mrs. Mamie Watson played the organ music and accompanied Homer McDowell as he sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "Lily of the Valley."
Interment was in West Liberty cemetery beside her husband, who died Nov. 9, 1961, under direction of the Steffy Funeral Home. Casket bearers were Tom Lowery, Richard Lowery, Glenn Brignon, Floyd Hasley, Leo Evans and Roy Copeland.
