FRANK VEST WAS COUNTY PIONEER IN MALCOM AREA

Frank, son of J.W. and Mary Catherine Vest, was born in Poweshiek county, Oct. 26, 1875. He died Nov. 27 at 88 years of age.

He attended Montezuma high school and taught in the rural schools. Mar. 16, 1904, he was united in marriage with Leanne Royce and to this union two sons were born, one dying in infancy. They established a home near Malcom and their 55 years of married life were spent farming there.

Following Mrs. Vest's death in 1959, he made his home mostly in Malcom and in Montezuma. About a year ago a stroke left him so that professional care was required.

Surviving are the son, Lyle Vest; two grandchildren, Mrs. Ellen Fassold, St. Tanis, and John Vest, Montezuma; a great grandchild, Nancy Fassold, St. Tanis; two sisters, Mrs. Amy Stutzman, Ames, and Mrs. Flossie Johnson, Los Angeles, Calif.; a brother, Cyrus Vest, Ft. Collins, Colo.; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 29 at the Steffy Funeral Home by Rev. G.R. Dieken. Mrs. Nellie Farley played the organ music and accompanied Keith Stahl as he sang "In the Garden" and "Rock of Ages."

Interment was beside Mrs. Vest in Ivy Hill cemetery, Malcom. Casket bearers were Delmar Hanssen, George Dillon, Lyle Johnson, Melvin Steffin, H.E. Steffin and Earl Lamb.
