CORA LEE RECTOR
Cora Lee Maxwell, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John A. Maxwell, was born December 31st, 1881, on a farm 7 miles northeast of Malcom. When 4 years old the family moved to Chester Township residing there for 11 years, after which they moved to Malcom Township.
On January 28th, 1903, she was united in marriage with Forest Rector of Malcom. Mr. Rector's work took them to several towns including Grinnell, Newton, Perry, Tiffin and Kellogg. Her husband being an invalid the last seven years of his life, they spent most of their time in Florida and Texas. Mr. Rector passed away November 10, 1942. Since that time she has spent much of the time with her daughter and family.
Mr. and Mrs. Rector were the parents of five children. Three boys passed away in infancy, Charles, who passed away October 11, 1944, did much musical entertaining in the eastern and southern states, and Mrs. Fernne Osborn of Brooklyn.
She united with the Baptist Church of Grinnell and was immersed on April 1, 1945. She lived a very useful life, working at the dressmaking trade for years. She was very successful in her work. Her kind hospitality and satisfied customers won her many friends. To all who have known her the thought of her radiant personality, friendliness and thoughtfulness for others will be a sweet memory in years to come as she will be sadly missed.
Mrs. Rector enjoyed good health until a short time after her son's death she developed heart trouble and August 20, 1948, she suffered a stroke and was cared for in the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Osborn, the family doing everything possible for her comfort for which she was very appreciative. She suffered a severe stroke January 30th and passed peacefully away without regaining consciousness, January 31st, 1949, aged 67 years and one month.
She is survived by her daughter Mrs. Fernne Osborn and husband; three grandsons, Neil and Keith, married, of Brooklyn, and Gene who enlisted in the Army January 3rd and is now stationed at Ft. Riley; three granddaughters, Lucille, Blythe and Karel Osborn at home; and one great-grandson, Danny Keith Osborn; one sister, Mrs. Andy Schultz of Grinnell; a half brother, Willard Royce of Washington, D.C.; a half sister, Mrs. Vera Magnusson of Malcom; two step sisters, Mrs. Stella Vest of Norwood, Colo. and Mrs. Leanne Vest of Malcom; and many relatives and friends.
Her parents, one brother, two sisters and an adopted brother preceded her in death.
Memorial services were conducted Thursday afternoon at 2:00 in the Malcom Presbyterian Church in charge of the Rev. E.W.F. Holler. Mrs. Nellie Farley sang "Close to Thee" and "Ivory Palaces" accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Lester Baltisberger.
Pall bearers were Lester Schneekloth, Grover Eisele, Holly Larson, Clair Meyers, Leland Clark and Bennie Baustain.
Interment was in the family lot in Ivy Hill Cemetery at Malcom.
