EARL FOWLER, 56, PROMINENT FARMER DIES SATURDAY

Earl Fowler, prominent Grinnell farmer, died at his farm home Saturday afternoon following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. from the James-Schalinske Funeral Home with Dr. G.S. Bruland, pastor of Grinnell Methodist church, officiating. Mrs. Dolph Miller and Mrs. Carl Paxon will provide music and will be accompanied by Mrs. Kathleen Heffner at the organ.

Pallbearers will be Charles Austin, Cliff Wichman, George Chyma, Sherely Eichhorn, Ross Mintle, and George Adkins. Interment will be at Hazelwood cemetery.

Son of Frank and Clara Hagen Fowler, he was born on June 28, 1902, at Rock Island, Ill. At the age of 18 he came to Grinnell and was employed by the Hagen Bros. Garage for 17 years. In March of 1938 he moved to his farm east of Grinnell on Highway 6.

On Oct. 10, 1928, he was married to Mary Vivian Stone in the Little Brown Church at Nashua. Mrs. Fowler preceded him in death on Sept 9, 1934.

Mr. Fowler was a member of the Methodist church and had served on the church board and was serving as a trustee at the time of his death. He was also a director of the Malcom Elevator and a member of the County Conservation Board.

He is survived by his children--Genevieve, who teaches at New Sharon; Frank, at home, and Elizabeth Ann, a student at Iowa Teachers College.

He is also survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Fowler of Argyle; one brother, George, of Argyle; and four sisters--Mrs. Russell Deere of Culver City, Calif.; and Mrs. Alonzo Finnerty, Mrs. Marie Deere, and Mrs. Edna Bentzinger, all of Fort Madison.
