OLEVIA G. LIDTKA, 90

Olevia Gail Lidtka, 90, of Grinnell, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004 at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

Her funeral service was held Saturday, Sept. 4, at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Herb Knudten officiating.

Interment followed at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Smith Funeral Home of Grinnell was in charge of the arrangements.

Casket bearers were Ryan Eagle, Wayne Patton, Dale Puls, Jason Snook, Alan Vogt and Ron Vogt.

The daughter of Charles H. and Harriet Garretson Goodrich, Olevia was born March 11, 1914 near Malcom. She attended rural schools and went to Malcom High School, where she played baseball, basketball, and track. Olevia graduated with the Brooklyn High School Class of 1931, where she received her teaching certificate.

Olevia was united in marriage to Earl L. Lidtka on Jan. 12, 1934. The couple farmed for many years on the place where she lived until her death. She enjoyed the outdoors, working in her flower beds and garden, and helping her husband on the farm.

Olevia was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, serving on the Altar Guild and being a Sunday and Vacation Bible School teacher for many years. She was also a member of the Sheridan Welcome In Club.

She is survived by her son, Randall Lidtka, and his wife, Deb, of Grinnell; her four daughters, JoAnn Cogley of Grinnell, Marilyn Vogt and husband Bob of Grinnell; Eleanor Snook and husband Eldon of Montezuma, and Dolores Eagle and husband Ron of Marshalltown; her 16 grandchildren; her 24 great-grandchildren; her several nieces and nephews; and her brother, Lotus Goodrich of Malcom.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl, in 1993; her brothers, Virgil Goodrich, Marion Goodrich, Charles Goodrich and Carroll Eugene Goodrich, who died in infancy; her sister, Xavie Richman; her half-sister, Viola Heath; and her son-in-law, Clarence Cogley.
