AN OBITUARY OF OLIVER BELL

Oliver Orrin Bell, youngest son of Mary E. and Stewart H. Bell, was born near Falls City, Neb., Jan. 27, 1875, and passed away suddenly of heart trouble at his home Sunday, March 12, 1932, at 7:30 a.m., at the age of 57 years, 1 month and 14 days.

When he was nine months old his parents moved, in a covered wagon to a farm three miles northwest of Newburg.

On Oct. 8, 1902, at Marshalltown he was united in marriage to Lillie Walkup of Gilman. They lived around Laurel, Newburg and Kellogg 18 years and moved on their farm in the Westfield neighborhood southwest of Grinnell in 1919, where they lived for 10 years. Two years ago they moved to their present home.

He and his wife joined the United Brethren church at Hickory Grove 16 years ago. He joined the Woodman lodge when a young man.

To this union 11 children were born, all of whom are living. They are: Luverne, Clarence, Bernice, now Mrs. Leonard Pearce, and Dale, all of whom are married and living in Westfield; George, Wilma, Minnie, Arlene, Eva and Elva (twins), and Evelyn, all of whom are at home.

Those left to mourn besides his wife and children are seven grandchildren, Marvene Pearce, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Pearce; Gerald, Donald and Howard, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Bell; Richard and Lois, son and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Bell, and Robert, son of Mr. and Mrs. Luverne Bell; his aged mother, two brothers, Harvey S. of Portland, Ore.; George A. of Eden, Mont.; four sisters, Mrs. Stella Hinton of Ft. Dodge; Mrs. Alverta Ahrens of Estherville; Mrs. Rosa Walker of Grinnell, Miss Addie Bell, who lives with her mother. Twin brothers died in infancy. His father also preceded him in death exactly five years ago to the hour.

Services were conducted by the Rev. W.B. Wilson Thursday from the Methodist church. A quartet consisting of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Lord, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Howell, sang "We Are Going Down the Valley," "Will There Be Any Stars in My Crown?" and "Abide With Me," with Mrs. Willis Evans accompanying at the piano. Pall bearers were Joe Smith, Hall McCulloch, Clyde Stover, Elda Cox, John Koger and Emery Brown.

Relatives attending from out of town were Perry Walkup, Cedar Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. P.A. Lally and Jack Walkup, Belle Plaine; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Benson, W.A. Walkup and son Lee, Gilman; Mr. and Mrs. C.E. Green, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Miner, Mrs. H.C. Seig, Marshalltown; Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Read of Gilbert; Mr. and Mrs. Bert Hinton, Fort Dodge; Mr. and Mrs. Lee Stuart, Webster City; Mr. and Mrs. F.G. Ahrens, son Henry and Mrs. M.J. Morrisey, Estherville; Mrs. R.A. Harris, St. Cloud, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Leon Brown and family, Danville.
