WEDNESDAY RITES HELD HERE FOR ROSE WALKER, 86

Funeral services for Mrs. Rose Leah Walker, 86, of Grinnell, were held Wednesday afternoon from the James-Schalinske Funeral Home. Mrs. Walker died Sunday at an Iowa City hospital where she had been a patient since September 30th.

Officiating at the services was the Rev. Newell Davis, pastor of the First Congregational church of Grinnell. Organ music was provided by Mrs. Kathleen Heffner.

Five grandsons served as pallbearers: Edward Lauber, Ronny Lauber, Robert Walker, Robert Cottrell and John Kalma. Edward Green also served as a pallbearer. Interment was in Hickory Grove cemetery near Newburg.

The daughter of Steward Harlow and Mary Elizabeth Carothers Bell, she was born July 6th, 1879, in Jasper county near Newburg. She received her education in the rural schools near Newburg.

On September 22, 1899, at Marshalltown, she was united in marriage with Robert Harry Walker, of near Newburg. They were residents of Jasper county, where they were engaged in farming, until they moved to Grinnell in the fall of 1919.

She was an active member of the WCTU, DUV, and the Grandmothers Club, which she organized. She attended the Congregational Church until her health prevented.

For several years she had been in failing health and was a patient at St. Francis hospital here for over a year.

Preceding her in death were her husband; a son, Everett; her parents; two sisters, five brothers, two grandsons and one granddaughter.

Survivors include five children, Harold of Newton, Mrs. Alma Lauber of Waterloo, Mrs. Goldie Brown of Panorama City, Calif., Earl of Elyria, Ohio, and Philip of Pagedale, Mo.; 26 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Stella Hinton of Webster City, and many nieces and nephews.
